M.M. Conducting, New England Conservatory 2020

During my tenure at New England Conservatory, I served as one of the graduate assistant conductors for both Concert Choir (100 students) and Chamber Singers (28 students), and singing Alto II in the former and Soprano I in the latter. I was also a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the choir associated with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as a participant in many student-led productions, recitals, and salons. Under the tutelage of Ms. Erica J. Washburn, my conducting skills grew exponentially and flourished greatly.

Music directing

After graduating from NEC, I moved to Philadelphia and began working primarily in musical theater, while continuing to sing in choirs. (I even host my own house choir twice a year!) My master’s program equipped me with pedagogical tools that shape a distinctive rehearsal approach, blending Western classical and musical theater techniques. I focus on elements often central to choral work, such as technical alignment across voice parts and a shared understanding of collective musical goals, which can sometimes be overlooked in the complex amount of layers required for musical theater. My teaching creates space for singers to understand not just how, but why these techniques support them and the storytelling, especially as they integrate elements like choreography. I believe effective storytelling requires a unified approach, and that this kind of vocal and artistic cohesion builds a strong foundation for diverse ensembles.
